How to Upload Files to a Web Server

You will need to upload files from your computer's hard drive to create and edit your website. These files won't be available on the internet until you transfer them into the /public_html/ folder of your web hosting account. Here's how ...

There are 3 main ways to upload Files (web pages, images, music, etc.) to a web server Hosting account:

  1. Using the File Manager that is built into Cpanel - here's how
  2. Using a separate FTP program - learn how upload files using FTP

1) First you need to log into your Cpanel - http://www.2serveu.net/cpanel
    enter in your username and password

2) Inside Cpanel click on the File Manager Icon File Manager in the 2nd row

3) Inside File Manager click on the Folder to the left of public_html
    (This opens your public_html folder, where all your files should be)

4) To upload files to your public_html directory click on the UP Arrow
click on the UP Arrow to upload files

5) Note: You can also upload files to a folder inside your public_html directory by clicking on the folder, and then click the UP Arrow

6) Click the Browse buttons to select files to upload from your computer. You may upload up to 12 files at a time. click Upload - If you already have files that you want to replace with new versions you must Checkmark "Overwrite existing files".

2) How to Upload Files using WS_FTP Uploading Files with cPanel File Manager Watch Movie

An FTP Program is needed to upload your web pages, files, images, etc. to a web server. There are many FTP Programs available, and most popular HTML Editors have one built right in. They all need to be configured, and we'll show you how.

This tutorial deals with the popular FTP software called WS_FTP, which is available Free of charge - Download the Free version of WS_FTP

WS_FTP is Free for Students. Businesses, etc. are asked to download the Pro Version which is not Free, so keep this in mind when installing to your computer.

Important: A Site created with FrontPage should NOT be uploaded via FTP, or it's components will not work properly. Please refer to our FrontPage Tutorial

1) Make sure you are connected to the internet

2) Open up WS_FTP

3) Click the "New" button in the upper right of screen

4) Configure each box as shown below, use your Domain Name
and the username and password for your Hosting Account.
(This was all sent to you when you signed up for a Free Hosting Trial)

5) Now click on the "Startup" tab and type /public_html/ in the 1st box,
and the location of the folder that your web files are stored in for box 2.

6) If all the information above was entered correctly, you will hear the
"train sound" and see a split screen (below) showing your files & folders:
the Left Screen shows your Local System: the web site files on YOUR HARD DRIVE
the Right Screen shows your Remote Site: the files in your HOSTING ACCOUNT

7) Now let's upload your Homepage to your Hosting Account . . .
just click on the file named "index.htm" on your Local Sytem to select it
then click on the to transfer the file to your Remote Site . . . it's that easy!
Tip: you can tranfer multiple files by holding down your "Ctrl" Key while selecting
